Wheel-thrown large stoneware vase decorated with white porcelain slip and a satin glaze.
The thick decorative slip is layered on with a rough brush for a subtle texture look. The vase was made with red stoneware clay, and the slip from porcelain. The 2 clay bodies have drastically different shrinkage rates. During the drying and firing process, the 2 clay types shrink at different speeds, causing small surface cracks to form on the vase. The cracks do not compromise the structural integrity of the vase.
Approximately 7 inches in diameter and 9 inches tall.
Each Common Goods pot is hand-thrown or handbuilt and glazed individually in our Markham (Ontario) home studio. Slight variations between pieces are to be expected due to the handmade process. Our pieces will show the marks of the process and could have slight imperfections compared to mass-produced goods. All glazed wares are microwave, dishwasher, and food safe unless indicated otherwise. Hand washing is recommended to prevent dulling the surface, or chipping the more delicate pieces.
